Zach Edey scored 14 straight points for the Boilermakers down the stretch. When Purdue added outside shooting, it was over for Tennessee.

Lance Jones sank a three-pointer to put Purdue up 66-60 on Tennessee, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in a 72-66 win. Purdue returned to the Final Four for the first time in 44 years, when another dominant Boilermakers big man, Joe Barry Carroll, led the way.
For the second half, it was all Edey for a while. He finished with a career-high 40 points and at one point, scored 14 points in a row.

Tennessee simply didn’t have an answer for last season’s Wooden Award winner, who shot 22 free throws and fouled out two Volunteers defenders. Edey added 16 rebounds and a huge block on Dalton Knecht in the final minute.

Knecht scored 37 points for Tennessee, but Edey was just too much. Tennessee made 11 three-pointers to Purdue’s two. But the last one from Jones put the Volunteers away and sent Purdue back to the Final Four.
