ESPN majorly disrespects 3 former Tennessee Vols quarterbacks
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

ESPN hit a few former Tennessee Vols quarterbacks with some major disrespect this week.

Bill Connelly of ESPN.com compiled a list of the 80 best college football quarterbacks since 2000 and he included zero former Tennessee Vols.

There are three obvious former Vols quarterbacks that are easily among the 80 best quarterbacks in college football since 2000. And it's unbelievable that Connelly didn't include any of them.

For starters, he missed the most recent standout Tennessee quarterback -- Hendon Hooker.

Hooker passed for 8,974 yards, 80 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while rushing for 2,083 yards and 25 touchdowns (counting his time at Virginia Tech -- Connelly included transfers and their career stats on his list).

Somehow Hooker didn't make the top 80, but Iowa's Brad Banks made the list after one good season (2,573 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, and five rushing touchdowns) that wasn't as good as Hooker's 2022 season at Tennessee.

Connelly also forgot to include former Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs on his list.

Dobbs passed for 7,138 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions while rushing for 2,160 yards and 32 rushing touchdowns during his time in Knoxville (he also had two receiving touchdowns).

Instead of including Dobbs, Connelly included names like Fresno State's David Carr, who passed for 300 more yards than Dobbs, but accounted for 13 fewer touchdowns and didn't do nearly as much damage with his legs.

Perhaps Connelly's biggest miss, however, was not including former Vols quarterback Casey Clausen, one of the most underrated players in college football history.

Clausen passed for 9,707 yards and 75 touchdowns (with 31 interceptions) to go along with six rushing touchdowns while winning some big games during his career at Tennessee.

Connelly's overall list is a fun trip down memory lane. But not including even one of the three Tennessee quarterbacks mentioned above is a travesty.
