Report reveals how much Jaguars are expected to pay Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence has been fairly inconsistent across his first three NFL seasons, but it does not sound like that is going to stop him from becoming one of the highest-paid players in league history.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on “SportsCenter” Sunday that contract extension talks between Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars have been “progressing nicely.” While Lawrence is only entering the fourth year of his rookie deal, the Jaguars seem willing to commit to the former No. 1 overall pick at a price tag of more than $50 million per year.

“He’s three years into his rookie deal so not urgent to have to get it done right this moment but Jacksonville, I’m told, is pretty committed to trying to get this done,” Fowler said, as transcribed by Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report. “This will also be a deal probably above that $50 million range but they are all in on Lawrence, they’ve been talking.”

Lawrence struggled to protect the ball last season. He threw for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, while rushing for 339 yards and four touchdowns. Turnovers are something the Jaguars have said they want Lawrence to focus on improving this offseason.

Lawrence had 25 touchdown passes and just eight interceptions in 2022, so his overall numbers worsened. The Jaguars, who went 9-8 last season and missed the playoffs, do not seem all that concerned.

It is likely a matter of when — not if — Lawrence will get a massive extension. Lawrence is set to make $5.4 million in 2024, and Jacksonville has picked up his fifth-year option for 2025. The Jags have plenty of time to work out a new deal with Lawrence, but one recent quarterback contract should serve as a reminder that the price is only going to increase.
